Advantages of Faux Wood Shutters
Homeowners looking for a classic, polished appearance for their windows have embraced interior shutters. Faux wood and vinyl shutters provide the light control, privacy, and insulation you expect from standard shutters and blinds but with added benefits. Ease of Installation
There’s no denying that hardwood is gorgeous, but it also tends to be heavier than vinyl and composite shutters. Faux wood shutters are much lighter than wood, making them easier to install on any window in your home.
Durability
Wood is a natural material, so it’s more prone to wear with time. Even when hardwood shutters are treated to increase their durability, they don’t offer the interior aluminum bracing of Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Vinyl Shutters. NewStyle® Hybrid Shutters are crafted using Truemill® dovetail construction. This method features interlocking components that are much hardier than traditional glue and dowel construction.
Moisture-Resistant
Water is the kryptonite of wood. All hardwood is susceptible to moisture damage, including warping, peeling, and cracking. Faux wood shutters can withstand exposure to water without damage, making them an excellent option for bathrooms and kitchens. These shutters can also be deep cleaned using moist methods without worry.
No Scratches
Water is one of many ways wood shutters can be damaged with time. Hardwood will show hairline and deeper scratches, especially when it’s older. If you have kids or pets in your home, scratched wood is almost a guarantee. NewStyle® Hybrid Shutters are available with a low-luster Finetech® finish that closely mimics the appearance of wood without the fear of surface damage.
No Fading
Continuous exposure to sunlight will fade your wood shutters over time. Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Vinyl Shutters are entirely impervious to UV damage and come fully protected by the Palm Beach Promise™. Composite shutters are less likely to fade over time because they have synthetic material combined with wood.

NewStyle® Hybrid Shutters
- SoftClose™ Louvers with Quick Align™: Similar to the closure feature found in high-end cabinetry, SoftClose™ Louvers close smoothly and automatically after reaching a preselected angle without the need to slide your hand up or down over the louvers for complete closure. The SoftClose™ feature includes the Quick Align™ system that offers five preset louver positions that allow for fast, precision alignment of shutters across panels for a polished appearance.
- Other control options include a standard front tilt bar, bi-fold or sliding panels with your choice of tilt location, and the HiddenTilt™ system adjusts the louvers without a tilt bar.
Palm Beach Polysatin Vinyl Shutters
- PowerView® Automation: Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Vinyl Shutters are the only shutters from Hunter Douglas that can be motorized with innovative PowerView® Automation technology.
- TruView™ Rear Tilt: This closure system adjusts the louvers of your shutters using a single tilt bar located discreetly behind the louvers.
