Custom Window Treatments

When it comes to choosing window treatments, our team at Smart PNW knows that the number of options can be seemingly endless and overwhelming. You may think it’s easiest to go with the safest and straightforward window coverings, but this choice can backfire and leave you with plain and dull windows. We’re here to help you push the design envelope by focusing on quality materials, your room’s overall look, and the size and function of your space.

Quality Counts

Not all window coverings are created equal. Well-made, custom-crafted shades or blinds are the easiest way to begin a sustainable design for your space. You may think the most economical route is the way to go, but windows are frequently a focal point in a room, so ask yourself if the extra attention is worth it-and if replacing cheap treatments year after year is better than buying something built to last.

Samples Matter

A fabric and color will never look the same in your home as it does in our showroom. In order to get the most accurate idea of what a window treatment will look like, place fabric samples near the window where it will be hung and see how it looks in different light throughout the day. You may be surprised at how midday sun or dusk alters the appearance of color.

Your Room’s Aesthetic

“Drapery” does not always mean thick, heavy fabrics with fringed tie-backs. It would help if you considered the overall aesthetic of your room when choosing new shades or drapes. If the vibe in your room is light, casual, and modern, your window treatments should match that. Consider linen drapery or sheer shades to continue the easygoing aesthetic.

Focus on Function

Every room in your home has a function, even if it is just relaxing. Think about what function the window treatments in a room have. Are they primarily used for light control or glare reduction? How much privacy do you need? Answering questions like these will help you choose custom window coverings that are not only fashionable but also functional.

Size Matters

The size of your room is another factor to consider when selecting new blinds. In smaller rooms, it’s best to opt for thinner slats or vanes so your shades don’t look out of place or overpower the rest of the room’s decor. Large spaces can be made to feel more welcoming and cozier with darker shades at the window. You can make small rooms feel larger by hanging your shades about six inches higher than the window frame. And remember, drapery or curtains that hang midway down the wall past the window frame are never a flattering look. Curtains should hang just below the frame, and drapery should break an inch above the floor, or form a small puddle.
